Brila FM Sacks Murphy Ijemba, Sean Amadi others

Popular presenter on Nigeria’s pioneer sports radio station, Brila FM, Murphy Ijemba, has reportedly been sacked by the management of the broadcast station. The award-winning presenter of Murphy Ijemba and the A-team was relieved of his job after altercation with the CEO of the company, Dr. Larry Izamoje. His traffic-time show was one of the most popular radio shows in Lagos and was the favourite of many listeners to the station.

Popularly known as Radio Paparazi, Ijemba took to twitter to announce his exit in series of strong tweets against his erstwhile boss.

It appears the entire A-team was cleared by the veteran sport-journalist-CEO as Ijemba also announced the exit of his team members, Sean Amadi, and Ese Oghene.

It remains to be seen whether the fortune of Brila will dwindle due to the loss of these fan favourites.

ASUU strike: Nigerian government, lecturers meet tomorrow

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Tuesday agreed that it would honour invitation from the Federal Government to resume the suspended talks tomorrow on the on-going strike and its demands.

ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union had received invitation for the meeting and will act accordingly.

Prof Ogunyemi said: “Yes, we are in receipt of the invitation by government and will honour it.”

He, however, declined to speak more on the issue.

Those expected at tomorrow’s meeting, aside ASUU delegation, include Minister of Education, Minister of Finance, Chairman, National Income Salaries and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC) and the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The strike by ASUU entered the third week, even as the non academic staff unions are planning to down tools over similar issues.

ASUU, SSANU, NAAT and NASU accused the federal government of non implementation of the 2009 signed agreements, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

Former President’s Son Sentenced To 24-years In Jail For Drug Trafficking

Fabio Lobo, a son of former Honduran President, Porfirio Lobo, has been sentenced to 24 years in an American prison for conspiring to smuggle cocaine and sell it in the United States.

U.S. District Judge Lorna G. Schofield also fined him $50,000 and ordered him to forfeit $267,000.

She said Lobo had used his connections and abused his position as the son of a former head of state to seek to profit through drug trafficking.

“The hefty punishment for Fabio Lobo was meant as a warning to corrupt members of Latin America’s political elite,” Schofield said.

According to Seattle Times, Fabio Lobo pleaded guilty in May 2016, admitting he worked with drug traffickers and Honduran police to ship cocaine into the United States.

Fabio Lobo was arrested in Haiti in 2015 in a joint operation by US anti-narcotics agents and Haitian police.

His father, who served as president of Honduras between 2010 and 2014, did not defend his eldest son after his arrest, instead saying that Fabio Lobo had to answer the accusations against him.

Biafra: Mbaka reveals why Igbos must refuse Nigeria’s breakup

Enugu-based Catholic priest, Rev. Fr Ejike Mbaka has disclosed why Igbos must insist on the unity of Nigeria.

Mbaka said Igbo should not be seeking secession because they stand to lose a lot if Biafra is achieved.

The controversial clergyman maintained that Igbos own most of the business ventures across Nigeria, as such should seek Nigeria’s unity.

Addressing a gathering of Igbos in East London, on Tuesday, Mbaka said, “No Hausa person owns property in Igboland. No Yoruba person owns property in Igboland.

“But 60% of businesses in northern Nigeria are owned by Igbos. 40% of businesses in western Nigeria are owned by Igbos.”

Claiming to know how much Igbos owned across Nigeria because he was regularly invited to say blessings at the opening of new businesses by Igbos in northern Nigeria, Mbaka said, “Go to Sabon Gari in Kano and see what Igbos own there”.
